Heterospilus is a gregarious ectoparasitoid that attacks Prodoxus larvae. Adults are brownish-red and females have an ovipositor approximately the same length as the body. The abdomen of females resembles a cone and appears extremely large in comparison to the rest of the body. Heterospilus has been collected from northern Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah.
